Interesting. Orthodox nuns don't have orders and so they do not have distinctive habits. just the plain black one. I wonder who these nuns are?

maybe Jill can chime in and solve the mystery.

They're dressed as nurses (spot the red crosses on their foreheads and pinafores). Not all of them are nuns, it may be that none of them are nuns.

Any info on the source of the photo, Kat? Wouldn't surprise me if they're connected with one of the charitable institutions founded by St Elizabeth the New Martyr.

the photos just describes them as priest with ukrainian orthodox nuns visiting Alexy II, taken 2 months ago. Does that offer any help?

These nuns are from one of the monesterys either founded by St. Elizabeth the New Martyr or are in some way associated with one of those monasterys. They live the same rule as other Orthodox nuns but they do social work such as nursing and caring for orphans.

Oh, most of these women are not nuns. If they were nons they would have prayer ropes in their left hands. They are postulates. The name of the main monastery is The Convent of Ss. Martha and Mary of Love and Mercy. It is near Moscow but there are satellites.
