compelling arguments...

... since I have no other option than 7:30 am mass tomorrow morning... all day long it is. I will wear my ashes all day at work and all evening in class. I hope you all are happy now, you've guilted me good and proper.

welcome to the club
I will get my ashes at 7 am Mass and everybody will stare at me and ask questions.

Somehow I have the notion that there is a chance to evangelize here +:-)

I always brushed them off. I know.

Before I get out the chapel doors, I've scratched them off as I find them mildly irritatingly itchy. I may leave a small smudge, but then, usually all gone.

People are that ignorant of the ashes on folks foreheads? Really? I grew up Lutheran and we had Ash Wednesday services. I've been Catholic over a decade now.

When my Evangelical mom was in the hospital and on her death bed 7 years ago, one of the nurses came in the room with ashes on her forehead. My mom made a comment about the ashes, something to the effect of, "Oh, no, I don't want that weird nurse in here with those satanic ashes on her forehead!" (Mom was on a lot of morphine at the time.)

The young nurse just smiled sweetly and said very kindly, "But ma'am, we both love the same Jesus." The nurse wasn't the least bit offended or rude to my mother. She treated my mom with absolute respect, and my entire family -- including Mom -- was extremely moved by that response.

That's what I'm doing. Skipping some school for Mass and then going to School, rehearsal, and a protestant youth group that some of my friends go to that attend occasionally.

I went to the advertised 0530 mass to find the priest hadn't woken up, or was otherwise indisposed. After a series of miscommunications I couldn't get to mass until the very last of the day, 1900. This was despite visiting about five or six different churches all over Sydney.

The Lord clearly had other plans for me.
