memorial of st. jerome...

I often joke that I want to be a hermit and live in a cave away from people but only if my cave had wifi and I could bring my coffee pot and ipod. Plumbing would be preferable too. Maybe I am confusing a hermit with a pampered recluse.

So on those grounds alone I feel an affinity with St. Jerome; that and he was notoriously known for his strong will and nasty temper. So even a pious saint like Jerome has his faults, we all do. In fact, the more seedy and sordid the past the more devoted I am to the saint. It gives us hope that even the most miserable of us can over come our defects.

St. Jerome also read his Bible every day and the saying "ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ" is attributed to him. How many of us can boast that claim of daily scripture reading. Sadly, not I.

I really like St. Jerome for a lot of reasons, but mostly because my dad and my brother are named 'Jerome' and I also like that he had a bad temper. Gives me hope that I could still work on sainthood. ;-)

It's not good to boast anyway.

Sordid past?

Do you know who the Saint is that used to hang around with Satan, because Satan was getting girls to have sex with him? One day Satan told him he could not get a girl for him.

Do you know who that was?

Dear Carolina

I Don't read the Bible as often as I should, but I try to pray the liturgy of the hours. I makes me feel a bit better about it.

Supposedly, every time St. Jerome would lose his temper, he would beat himself with a big stone.
