people watching at the mall...

... While out shopping this week at the local mall, I couldn't help notice a very attractive family... how could any one not notice. It consisted of one very well endowed blond wife in a skin tight dress. To her credit the frock did cover her nipples. To her left was a small entourage of beautiful daughters, all pre-teen and teen aged. The young girls flipped their hair and chatted on their cell phones while sauntering sexually in their skin tight jeans and tiny shirts. Quite the scene. Obviously enjoying all the attention.

What struck me the most about this whole scene; however, was the patriarch of the clan. I use the term liberally. He followed behind them, small and unnoticed. He seemed insignificant to them, yet he beamed with shallow pride at his hot wife and sexy daughters... women who obviously had not a single iota of respect for him. If they had, they never would have ventured out strutting about a shopping mall like show dogs in heat. And what man can you have respect for that allows the women of his family to project in such a way.

It's like when you are laughing at the old guy over compensating in his convertible sports car and he thinks you are smiling and flirting with him.

The only comments I can come up with are unprintable...

nah... not here. Every one knows this is a "so called" Catholic blog.

But you wear a veil to Mass! And of course we know that's the only true test of a REAL Catholic!

From the way you described the scene Kat I wouldn't go near those girls with a ten-foot barge pole. Lest this descend into a rant over immorility I will say only that the only person a beautiful women should reveal the full extent of her beauty to is her husband, in all other situations she should conceal and even downplay it, thus endith the rant

PICTURES! Where are the pictures? Do we really want to believe on just your word alone? :) Just kidding.

I suppose this is more your style of male leadership.

You mean the girls aren't flirting with me when I cruise around the lakes in my convertible?

I'm with Just Another Mad Catholic on this one. Modesty in public seems to have been forgotten nowadays, but it is so very important.

This scene goes hand in hand with an observation my husband made about female mall-goers....there is an astonishing amount of young teen and pre-teen girls sashaying about the mall with their moms at any given moment - each child and each mom carrying their own Victoria's Secret shopping bags. I leave you to draw your own conclusions about what that means.

Write a short story about these people. Worthy material.

I'm sorry - but does Old Bob look like he saw the same thing you did or what? Just askin'.

Speaking as one of Santa's "helpers" at the mall each year (Ho Ho Ho), you'd be amazed - or maybe not - at the immodesty I regularly see. Many a young lady and young mother has come to visit with the big guy with certain endowments almost on open display. Then they bend over to place the child, giving an added view (many a times I've had to close my eyes or turn my head.)

Santa may be Santa, ladies, but he is a guy.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have seen the type: perpetual adolescent mom with her daughters in training and daddy pimp. Pretty gross.

On the flip side--
This past fall I was in Vegas attending an engineering convention, and had the opportunity to attend Daily Mass at Guardian Angel Cathedral before my daily sessions...the cathedral was only a brief 10 minute walk from my convention center. I was professional in appearance, dressed in a conservative light blue pantsuit, makeup and jewelry, and low-heeled flat shoes although my hair is bleached blonde and blown out in the current style. I was wearing a scarf outside as the morning air was a bit chilly, but removed it was I entered the cathedral...I had so many folks come up and address me " Good Morning Sister", even a priest....

Maybe he figured he could keep a better eye on them from behind...or he planned on ditching them as soon as they turned the corner.

Crescat,
Would the hubby even have the power in that hsoue to tell his wife and daughter not to leave the house dressed like that.
I consider myself orthodox and no matter how many times i say it and reason with my better half she will not wear a skirt to church. Forget mantillas etc.
I told her that pants for women only happned in the 60s so the excuse that in cold countries pants are better is nonsesne. you think that worked no it did not.
Ah well the journey continues.

YOu know what gets me is grown up men wearing short pants. Disgusting no excuse for it.

Yes, but for Terry I make the exception. He looks simply stunning in hot pants.

Creepy. Ick. I used to think that in order to get my husband to be more physically affectionate, I needed to dress in a provocative manner. I did. It didn't work. Speak up here, fellas, but I got the impression that it's far more difficult for him to show me the respect I am due as his wife when I disrespect him by dressing like a brazen hussy. When I began dressing modestly, covering my body carefully and reserving the intimacy of my shape only for his eyes, he began showing me how much he appreciated it. :)

I think it IS possible to dress stylishly, yet modestly. I am teaching this principle to my girls: Modesty honors beauty. Lack of modesty distorts.

How sad for the girls whom you observed that their father is so weak in showing his daughters true love and respect--for them, as well as for his wife.

Eek. I was admiring a very different sort of attractive family at our local mall the other day--four daughters under the age of ten. Everyone was appropriately and stylishly dressed, Mom was holding the hand of the second youngest and Dad pushing the youngest in a stroller. They had just been at a doll store, and all the girls were clutching their dolls and little bags with new accessories for the dolls.

I hope my family looks like that, when we have kids.
