things that depress me...

... New Oxford Review.

I wonder how exactly this news source uplifts the Church. All it elicits from me is a depressive state, being reminded on a daily basis of all our scandals. I have to wonder about other bloggers who expend a great deal of effort regurgitating these very same stories. What do you suppose they expect to accomplish?

I stopped referencing them a long time ago.

NOR reminds us of what we need to fix. They put these scandals out to air out the Church and help her heal. I subscribe, and attribute the NOR to guiding me on my return to the Church and to finding the Extraordinary From. Without the NOR, I would not have found The Wanderer, Father Z, etc., or this blog.

I've been reading NOR for about 15 years; yes, they're critical and sometimes depressingly so; but their criticisms are accurate and honest. I agree with Agnes on this: they remind me of what we need to fix (in my opinion, almost everything, almost all the time, just like my own soul).

I think what they expect to happen is the "righting" of the American Catholic ship. Within the Ark, we have many enemies punching holes hoping to bring about Her sinking.

Shining the light on the work of (ultimately) the Devil is a good thing. It doesn't make for uplifting reading, but we can't all go around with smiley faces on.

It is demoralizing; however, they do the Church a great service by placing what are sometimes very paindul stories " in the light". More cause for prayer, in my mind.

It is depressing but the truth isn't sunshine and roses.
