the worst time of the year...

... what is it with Lent? Everything that can go wrong usually does this time of year. Already one day in and things start blowing up in my face. This time last year I ended a relationship that I was positive was going to result in marriage. The year before that I lost my grandmother. In fact every year since I converted huge life altering events happened during this season.

Welcome to my desert.

Yep, sounds about right for the Lenten experience. Fear not, you have company on this rugged road.

"Welcome to my desert" says Kat to us, and says Christ to us also. This is what Lent is all about. Christ never said following Him would be easy; in fact, He said exactly the opposite. Hang in there, and God bless and keep you.

Ooh.....ten years ago, my dad began his radiation on Ash Wednesday and was scheduled to have it end on Good Friday. Dang.

He did not survive his lung cancer, but he was blessed incredibly in the end by the ever-hoped-and-prayed-for peaceful death, thanks be to God.

I am in the desert with you. But more importantly, HE is in the desert with you. +JMJ+

Boy, ain't it the truth, Cat.

Lent has been a time of hospitalizations and/or deaths in my own family these last few years....

Prayer and sacrifice for sure!

Every year since you converted, huh? Maybe God knows that NOW you have the spiritual wherewithal to deal with those things. He can let His chosen ones bear some pretty heavy burdens. I think of Mother Teresa and all her years of silent endurance through unexplainable feelings of spiritual dryness... of John of the Cross and his "dark night of the soul"... of Dorothy Day and her "long loneliness"... It would seem that you have lots of good company in the desert!

Happens to me every year. People that don't "get" Lent think I'm nuts. It's like there is a secret suffering club. So weird. You are not alone...I will pray :)

I understand, although the timing is the opposite for me. Lent is usually a peaceful season; it is the rest of the year that I seem to get kicked around.

Like Bob said, Christ never said that it would be easy. And, as Kathy said, maybe God knows that now you have the spiritual wherewithal to deal with those things.

Those both remind me of something else that I have heard before: "I believe that God doesn't give us more than we can handle, I just wish that he didn't have so much confidence in me."

Know that you're in my prayers.

Well, as Barb Nicolosi's mom says, "If you like Lent, you're doing it wrong."

My only advice while in the desert is to pray a lot and watch out for the bears!

I hope your Easter is wonderful.

That is certainly not uncommon, but not fun either.
Hugs and prayers.
