now it's my turn...

... to solicit your prayers. My plans have been significantly impeded due to the volcanic activity in Iceland. My layover in Munich will probably not happen and my travel companion just informed his trip may be cancelled all together because he can't make it into Berlin or Slovenia for work.

I am really trying to keep my chin up and we are furiously looking into alternatives... but what we both need now is nothing short of miraculous.

Please pray for me.

I worried about this when I heard flights were being cancelled throughout Northern Europe yesterday - I will pray something works out. I can imagine how disappointing this is.

Are you stuck in an airport??? If you're stranded in Britain get up here to Orkney and we'll give you a place to stay!

I wish I was then I could just take the rail to get around.

No I am leaving next week, my flight may or may not happen due to its lay over location.

The big worry is that I was splitting accomadation costs with my friend who may not go at all now.

Is this one of those situations where we have to throw someone in the volcano to appease the gods? Who to throw...

Right now a friend's wife is stuck in München. Her flight has been rescheduled to Monday, according to Lufthansa, so hopefully the airport will be open by then.

You can also look at the 24-hr projected ash maps here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/aviation/vaac/vaacuk_vag.html (Whatever good that does.)

If it doesn't, will the airline let you change your flight to southern Italy? Then you could use the rail to get around.

This is at most a set back. Worst case you will just have to go a little later. I am certain this is deeply disappointing. But do try to remember you WILL get there.

On the note of time constraint; if you have some flexibility in your schedule and some spare time you way want to consider the boat option. The Queen Mary sails from New York on the 29th. You can book an inside cabin for about $900 and that includes food and most of the entertainments available on the ship.

A far more civilized method of travel IMHO.

Christ is risen!

Prayers here! However, I'd rather see you not go then have to read about your plane crashing due to ash intake in the engines.
