thank you, kind readers...

... for the understanding and sympathetic words regarding my travel predicament. Please continue to pray for me. I might still be able to go in the first part of May... provided.

Please let this piece of shitty art express my humble gratitude. Ok, I can admit it, I am with Mr. Korger in kind of liking this. It has a certain earnest kitschy charm.

Oh great, Kat: this means all we non-Americans are going to BURNINATE!!!! in the deepest bowels of Hell.

Because obviously we can't be saved by the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution (whichever document it is the Lord there is holding) since we have, um, declarations of independence of our own which aren't yours.

*sigh* I'll save a spot near the window for the rest of you, mmkay?

I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I will restrain myself and just say that I think this is theologically very dicey and well... just plain tacky. A dozen Hail Marys and Our Fathers are definitely in order.

Is that the tree of Gondor on Christ's chest?

I'm wondering when the Evangelical separated brethren will get it that America is not the Promised Land or the chosen nation.

As a scion, however remote, of the evil colonialist British I can say it seems like a harmless helping of schmaltz although my friend isn't so sure as she thinks she's spotted both Sarah Palin and Ronald Reagan.

Prayers for your rerouted travel plans. Personally I am very peeved with Iceland - first it was Cod Wars in the 70s, then their banks nearly sent us into a black hole, last week it was their darn volcano and today in Scotland it feels like they've sent their weather over too.

Travel plans may be okay, Kat, as I've just heard on the news that the Irish and British airports are open again :-)

Personally, I prefer the "One Nation Under Cthulhu" version of this picture:

Pinoy, I thought the same thing.

Looking at the link, one discovers that the artist is Mormon. The Mormons officially teach that the Constitution is a divinely inspired document.

Since when did Lincoln sing Swanee???

Fr Erik- I thought "Mormon" too, immediately. Their didactic devotional graphics seem to favor a distinctive quasi-realistic style of draftsmanship with sentimental themes, overlain w/ a gauzy soft-focus patina and diffused light sources.

The good news is, this picture should make any "separation of Church and state" liberal fanatic's head explode. What's not to like?

If you check out the image source, it labels each person depicted. The only Catholic is the immigrant who is so stupid for not understanding that salvation comes from being a WASP after June 21, 1788.

Pinoy: Well, that must be the most Catholic part of the image, since it's a Tolkien reference...

Smiley: Hm, I think I count two.

Badger Catholic said...

Smiley: Cell phone guy is politician, crying guy front right is supreme court justice.

And what's up with the yellow mist? Mustard gas? Stink bomb?

According to the website where this is featured, she is pointing to the mother with the disabled child and deciding she wants to keep the baby. Kinda odd that she is on the right with all the naughty people. Maybe she was contemplating abortion and will convert to the other side.
