blessing of the animals...

... I would've have taken my unfortunate kitty to our annual Blessing of the Animals for the Feast of St. Francis, but I dare say he is holy enough already. So I spared cat the indignity of being doused with more holy water and instead suggested to a friend that she take her one eyed dog for a blessing.

No word yet if the dog has gotten it's eye back.

I love this - the dog looks at the priest with the skull cap.

Wow, when is the last time you saw a Franciscan friar wearing a soli Deo and a crown (Franciscan rosary)! Very nice indeed!

That pooch is clearly expecting a miracle.

Sweet.

Our former parish priest had the church secretary call me up once and request that I bring some of my llamas to the Blessing of the Animals because he wanted something exotic represented there. She said he was tired of doing just the routine cats and dogs. I had to explain to her that llamas hate dogs and the inevitable mayhem which would ensue was not in keeping with St Francis's original idea of peace and harmony.

I wish we had a blessing of the animals today, but both of our priests are headed to the diocesan seat for a two-day meeting with the bishop. I suppose the deacon could do it, but there was no mention of it in the announcements yesterday.

Our priest did the blessing on Friday. Our puppies aren't that socialized with other dogs, so it was sort of like the field trip to end all field trips for them. And one person brought a kitten in a cage. The pups sniffed it but I'm happy to say that Benedict and Scholastica didn't promptly lose their minds and try to crawl into the cage with the kitten. I think St. Francis was the one behind that little miracle.

kat,
Your cat needs an exorcism, last week it pissed on your towel when it was wet so you would not know. It is a sneaky cat. A mere blessing would do it no good.

Our dogs are so holy I have asked them to bless me. Enough said

Some places treat dogs and cats as delicacies. So, will the grace before meals count as a blessing too?

I got my rats blessed yesterday. I believe they were the most "exotic" animals there. (The dogs did include a group of stunningly beautiful Borzoi....)

My owner and manservant did not take me to be blessed today, as he feared I would try to eat some of the other smaller animals.

Just for the record, as a proud feline, I have never and would never piss in Matt's towel,...though I once dipped his toothbrush in the toilet...but I was angry at him for putting me in my kennel for meowing too much.

Probably a good idea Re: Kitty.
Too much water can be a BAAAD thing:<)! for the kitties...
as for the dogs...these mutts in this house stink so bad it isn't even funny...a bath would be in order if the lazy religious would just DO IT!
And a good dousing of holy water (and exorcism prayers, in this case) wouldn't hurt...
no rest for the wicked, I guess!

To his credit, our Beloved Jack Hughes has wet-vacuumed the pet stains out of the carpet in this religious house...yes, indeedy.
God bless and keep him!!

I really made a hit with the youngins when I brought my iguana to be blessed about 8 years ago..it was like Show and Tell. she sat on my shoulder and her tail hung down almost to my knees..

the poor visiting priest about had a coronary when he saw her sitting on my shoulder..you would have thought I had a python or something..she didn't like him either and hissed at him...

I guess her blessing got cancelled.

One year we brought our dog Margaret to be blessed and she decided she should be the only dog in the church.
She had to wait out in the car and be blessed in absentia.

How embarrassing.

My rats however are always well behaved.
