I was a poll worker yesterday..the first time ever... What a wonderful opportunity in participate in an activity that makes our country great...
the most exciting were seeing 5 people voting for the first time...four young people who had just come of age....and one woman of Asian or Philipino descent...in her 50's I assume..voting for the first time as she had just got her US citizenship....she politely requested if we could take her picture voting...normally we don't allow cameras in the voting area but our manager made an exception..we used her camera phone and the smile on her face said it all...
I don't see a dichotomy. As the Lord taught us to aspire for, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." As God's kingdom begins in the here and now.
"When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realized that the Lord doesn’t work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me instead."

Is this the best we can do for the Blessed Sacrament?
Has it been placed in a janitor's closet?
Why would a Priest allow the Blessed Sacrament exposed, to be away from the main altar?
Sacriledge!

I am so glad to be done with it for the next year or so before the machine starts up again.

Rick, excellent point. AS for me, I can get distracted and consumed by one while neglecting the other.
