Catholic in south...

... it is a supreme oddity to be a Southern Catholic. It is even more profoundly odd to be a Byzantine Catholic in the South. Father Deacon Daniel has a blog where East meets South and hilarity ensues.

Y'all mind your manners now.

I know of both Byzantine & Maronite Catholics in the Birmingham AL area, along with Mother Angelica. So does that make it a super profound oddity?

Makes me wonder how Greek with a Southern drawl sounds like...

Thank you for sharing this! I love the South, but unfortunately I can only wish I lived in the South. I'll definitely be following this blog too! Those pictures of the new church are gorgeous.

Indeed, being Catholic in the south is about as common as eggnog in July. Try being an uber Roman Catholic in Mississippi. The funny looks alone are worth it, as all i have to do is channel my best Blanche Devereaux and say is "Darlin, didn't your motha teach you not to stare? Bless it..."

Except if you're from New Orleans. Then Southern and Catholic make sense. However, New Orleans isn't your typical Southern town.
