Kat - I speaka the Italian - I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and hung out in Italy for a long time. The Italians love it when you try to speak their laguage.

Anyway - a wonderful phrase to use that you won't find in your guidebooks is - and I'll spell it how it sounds: 'Va fung ghoul' They just love it when Americans say that.

Have a nice trip.

According to my dad (who is Italian) you should not follow Terry's advice (unless you really mean it).
Good luck.

Kat, Do NOT, I repeat DO NOT listen to Terry. As a kid, if I would have said that my mouth would have been washed out with soap, after being slapped in the face & before being grounded for a week by my Italiano-Americano Mama.

PS Terry mispelled the last word.

Q. What do you call it when an Italian has one arm shorter than the other?

A. A speech impediment.

Have fun in Rome!
