Know how we were just talking about how the Russians excel at this light-dark thing, and how much more poignant their sense of light is because they have this dark, broody blood running through their veins? Today I heard a bit of Rachmaninoff's "Our Father" from the Divine Liturgy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiSiRAZRCVA&feature=related) and realized they have the same touch in music too. They have this transcendant, masterful sensitivity to joy (or light) veiled in sorrow (or darkness).
